Having the Right Attitude in Prayer
I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men;
For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty.
For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior. (1 Timothy 2:1-3)
- When you pray, always approach God with Reverence and Respect
According to Ecclesiastes 12:13 the Bible tell us, “Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man.”
The word fear means to show reverence and respect.
Therefore the scripture can be read this way reverence and respect God and keep His commandment
Remember who you are praying to. You are talking to God Almighty.
Realize it is an honor to come into God’s holy presence, and it is an honor to be able to access His throne.
2. Approach Prayer like it is your DUTY
God did not say pray for your leaders because you like them. No, you are to pray for them because that is your assignment {your duty}
Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. (Matthew 22:37-39)
These leaders are our neighbor, and they need our prayers. They are not perfect, and they are going to make mistakes but it is our duty to pray for them. Prayer will bring God on the scene and God will make the necessary changes.
Another scripture tells us … And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God. (Romans 12:2)
The world wants to murmur and complain about our leaders but as believers we pray for our leaders. This is the right thing to do.
Lastly, the Bible says in Colossians 3:23, “And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men.”
Pray because God told you to pray for your leaders.
Never come into God’s presence ready to spew out ugly, disrespectful or slanderous words about our leaders.
No, we pray with the right attitude.
